□ Name: Kazuichi Souda
□ Journal: mechanice
□ Series: Super Dangan Ronpa 2
□ Canon point: End of game
□ History: http://danganronpa.wikia.com/wiki/Kazuichi_Souda and for the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danganronpa_2:_Goodbye_Despair
□ Personality: Like most of the members of Super Despair that appear in SDR2, Kazuichi Souda is really not what he appears to be. From his looks alone, one might assume that he's some kind of tough guy punk, someone not to be messed with or well on his way to the yakuza. Putting aside the fact that he -did- join a shady organization, he could not be farther from shady business. Souda is upbeat (when he's not scared) and bubbly. It isn't really surprising that his favorite thing is sugar (specifically cola) and sweet things since he always seems to have an abundance of energy. The reason he changed his appearance was to try and "fit in" better with people. Of course his logic is clearly not all that sound, but it made sense to him. Much of Souda's actions only make sense to him. He is kind of in a world of his own.
That's not hard to believe since he appears to have had a difficult time growing up. Souda came from a poor family who struggled with a bicycle shop. His relationship with his father was troubled at best. Because his dad could not keep the business prosperous, he was moody and apparently violent. Souda talks about being beat up by his dad a lot but shrugs it off. He also talks about being picked on at school a lot. Probably this kind of treatment became so normal to him that he talks about it with a high level of detachment. His entire life so far has been made up of defense mechanisms to cope with his unwittingly low place on the food chain. Even siding with Junko could have been a direct result of his growing up a "victim".
As a child, Souda was timid and shy, and a bit scrawny for his age. As such, he was picked on quite a lot. As a teenager, some of that shyness is certainly gone, but he is still deceptively (due to his "tough guy" image) timid. It is very easy to shock Souda out of his persona, dissolving him into a squeamish, frightened individual. Almost all of his reactions to things and other people are quite exaggerated. As such, he comes off as very emotional. It is never difficult to tell how he is feeling. After coming to the island, he was especially jumpy ... but who wouldn't be, when any of your "friends" could turn around and murder you? Souda even went so far as to jump when just being approached normally by Hinata (the sort-of protagonist of the game). He quickly recovers with a "Oh, it's just you" ... but Souda's true nature almost always betrays him (to his dismay). Even at Hope's Peak, he can't really escape his fate as a target for bullying due to this. Saionji (the SHSL Dancer) especially loves to tease him and continuously predicts that Souda will be one of the victims simply because she knows it upsets him.
Despite being teased by his classmates and fellow Junko-worshipers, Souda is one of the more sympathetic of the bunch. He still manages to form meaningful connections even if they aren't always with the best intentions. Along with his physical appearance, high school Souda seems to have shed a lot of his shame-filter and developed a taste for beautiful women. He is, put bluntly, kind of a creeper, to Sonia Nevermind in particular. Early on, he states that he has a preference for blond women (even though he is a little lewd to some of the other girls), and thus seems to have developed a misguided infatuation on the princess. Souda also seems to have grown out of his personal filter, since he often says whatever is on his mind. That's primarily what makes him out to be a pervert or a creep. He will say things that are really inappropriate and then not think much about it. For example, he announces shamelessly that he has come to see all the girls in their swimming suits when the group decides to go to the beach for some girl time. As each of them appear on the scene, Souda comments on what they're wearing and whether or not he predicted such a look on the girl that is wearing it. Even though Sonia arrives in an unflattering wetsuit, he's even quite clearly interested in that (and rejected by everyone).
Other connections he forms are more innocent. It really seems that Souda never really did have good friends in all his life, so he doesn't really know how to "behave" as a genuine friend. And he seems to have some pretty strange ideas about friendship too. The best example is when he tried to get Hinata to wear the same swimsuit as him as a symbol of their friendship. Hinata finds it a bit weird (which is funny coming from a guy who gets underpants as presents) and rejects the idea. Souda is deeply wounded by this, as he really wants to be Hinata's friend. He even cries to Komaeda later because Hinata "broke up" with him. This is after he and Nidai tied Komaeda up for acting suspicious. Needless to say his judgment may be off when he is blinded by the prospect of camaraderie. With his behavior toward the girls and the guys both, you can easily conclude that Souda is just really desperate for companionship. Or interaction with other human beings in general.
With his Despair taken away, Souda is shown to be a decent guy (outside of the pervertedness and the weirdness). He reacts humanely to the deaths of his classmates, with fear and repulsion, and even shows sympathy. To a degree. When Nidai is killed, he constructs a small robot out of his remaining parts because Akane was missing him terribly. He also does this to impress Sonia but at least some good thought was there. He is one of very few who never have the notion to kill someone else on the time. It may be because he was fearing for his own life the entire time, but the point stands: he was not swayed by any of the motivations placed before them, and did not even want to exact revenge on anyone or dispose of Komaeda through death.
Since he is a SHSL mechanic, it can be inferred that despite acting kind of dumb around other people (due to his lack of positive experience with them), Souda is smart. He can read well in English, suggesting he has -some- book smarts. Of course he also knows the workings of vehicles, robots, and machines and can effortlessly take things apart, build them, or repair them. He has always been a hard worker due to his family's situation, but he reveals a sense of ambition and determination to Hinata during their interactions too. Despite everything wrong in his life, he always aspired to work on spaceships ... even with a fear of space. Probably, if not for Junko, he would have succeeded. Of course all SHSL students are expected to and have proven to accomplish great things. Along with the other survivors of the program, he now has the chance to do so again.
While playing Monobear's game, Souda was bent on survival above all else. He even threatened to survive on eating only coconuts for the entire time. Also, when he was not either watching after the captive Komaeda (so he wouldn't do anything horrific and crazy ... but also wouldn't starve to death ), he was trying to fix things around the island to try and see if it would help their situation any. It didn't, of course, but he never gave up. Despite being a prime target for murder due to his flighty, fidgety disposition, Souda became a survivor. He even managed to nearly be blown up without much more than a few scrapes and bruises. In fact, Souda just may be proof that if you are determined enough, anything is possible. Except for winning the girls, of course.
□ Age: at least 18, possibly older. we do not know which class he actually came from.
□ Gender: male
□ Appearance: Souda is approximately 5'7"-8". Although his original hair color is black, he has it dyed an obnoxious shade of neon pink. His teeth are all sharp and "shark like", although it's not really explained why or how they got that way. He is most often seen wearing a pair of coveralls, since he is a mechanic. These are also an obnoxious neon shade of yellow-green and has some sort of lightning bolt logo on the back and front. He wears a black beanie with a white/silver clip or strip (I can't tell what it is, lmao) on it, yellow tennis shoes, and there is a flashlight attached to one of his belt loops. Of course he's also seen with various tools! He wears boxer-ish underwear that is, unsurprisingly, neon colored (blue and yellow) and seems to think that camo speedos are acceptable swim wear (and also that matching with your buddy is a completely normal and fashionable fashion choice. When he was younger, he wore glasses, but along with his new hairstyle, he switched to contacts as well. He wears hot pink contacts and a bad haircut that is reminiscent of getting caught in a lawnmower.
□ Abilities/Powers: Souda is more or less a normal human being with the exception of one very extraordinary talent. He is a "Super High School Level Mechanic" and thus basically a genuis with a wrench. He can pretty much repair or build anything mechanical, and hoped one day to work on a rocket ship. However, he ended up joining Junko's Despair instead. We are not told specifically what each member did after their leader died, but Souda could have been involved in various killings and thus (probably subconsciously since his memories were supressed for the sake of the project) knows how to operate guns or bombs or various weapons. But that will probably not be an issue in Ariel, as he has been reformed/is missing memories of that time.
□ Personal Items: He will be arriving with his tools, his clothes, and his ID card. And friendship speedos.
